I recently worked with a married man via telehealth because he lived in rural Australia. He said he felt a constant sense of low self-worth and a persistent fear of his wife being unfaithful, even though there was no “real reason” for these feelings. Over the years had spent thousands of dollars seeing many different counsellors, social workers and general psychologists. Years of general counselling hadn’t helped much. He couldn’t “just talk himself out of it” or “breath himself to mindful acceptance”. Textbook CBT techniques felt like he was gaslighting himself. Nothing seemed to help, and each failed attempt at counselling made him feel worse about himself, and reinforced his hopelessness, insecurities and fears.

Given her training as a clinical psychologist and her passion for targeted diagnostic clarity, Deb identified that the man was experiencing long-term, undiagnosed, debilitating OCD symptoms. He wasn’t “just jealous” or “insecure”. Obtaining an accurate diagnose lead this client feeling less shame, helplessness and blame for his overwhelming fear. He wasn’t just overeating or making mountains out of molehills. His diagnosis gave him hope, and a clear treatment path to psychological and emotional freedom. Deb was able to refer him onto specific and targeted therapies to work on his OCD.

If you have tried general counselling or therapy a go in the past, and it just didn’t feel right or didn’t quite hit the spot, get in touch with Deb. If you’re not able to come into her office in Watsonia (North-East suburbs of Melbourne), she will happily work with you via telehealth.
